Recommender systems were developed to efficiently target customers with the best personalized offers, but there are several use cases in different fields where their usage could be beneficial. Anomaly detection is among these fields. A good recommender system can show what patterns are usual, so at the same time it is able to detect behaviours which are extremely unlikely. In the presentation I will show some ways to detect anomalous activities and identify outlier entities using a recommender system built on user activities.
